What is Blackjack Card Counting

This is usually one of the first questions that anyone interested in Blackjack or online Blackjack asks. If you mention 'cheating' in the context of Blackjack, people normally think of card counting.

In summary, Blackjack card counting is when a player keeps track of every single card that has been played since the dealer shuffled the pack. The idea is to track the high (picture and 10 cards) over the low cards.

Obviously it is of great benefit to any online Blackjack player to get as many high cards as possible in order to get as close to 21 or Blackjack as possible.

By knowing how many high cards have been played, a player can get an idea of what to expect in future hands and thus bet accordingly.

One of the most popular card counting systems of all time is the 'Hi/Lo Card Counting System'. Using this system, players assign specific point values to each card that has been played and keep the overall tally or score in mind.

For example, 2s, 3s, 4s, 5s and 6s are each assigned positive one, 10s, Jacks, Queens, Kings and Aces are each assigned negative 1, and 7s, 8s and 9s are assigned zero (they are essentially neutral).

As hands are dealt, using this system, a player can keep score of the cards that have been played. If the total value is positive, the player knows that the deck contains more high cards and if the total is negative, he knows that the deck contains more smaller cards.

With the knowledge that there are still more high cards to come, the player can increase the size of his bets or double down because he knows that he has an increased chance of getting 21 or Blackjack and the dealer has an increased chance of busting.

The bad news, however, is that due to the Random Number Generator software used in all online casino gambling games, card counting does not work when playing online Blackjack.
