Online Blackjack Strategy
For centuries Blackjack has been one of the most popular and widely played
gambling games the world over and online. In fact, online Blackjack gambling has
helped created a whole new generation of Blackjack players and fans.
On the surface Blackjack seems like a pretty simple game to play. However, in
reality, Blackjack is a game of skill which requires a player to use their skill
and understanding to keep the online casino edge or advantage to a minimum.
The objective of Blackjack is to get 21 or as close to 21 as possible, without
actually exceeding 21. In Blackjack, unlike in a game like poker, you play
against the dealer and not the other players. To win, you have to beat the
dealer?s hand.
The rules of Blackjack specify that the dealer must 'stand' on 17 or more and
'hit' on anything less. This is designed to increase a player's chances of
winning.
In terms of the card values in Blackjack, Aces can represent either 1 or 11,
Kings, Queens and Jacks represent 10 and 2 to 10 cards retain their face value.
Each player is dealt two cards face up.
The dealer deals himself one card face up and one card face down. Each player
will then get the opportunity to 'stand' (to refuse further cards), or 'hit' (be dealt one or more cards). As soon as a player exceeds 21, they are
'bust' and lose their initial bet. If they get 21, this is known as a Blackjack.
The following are some basic online Blackjack strategy points that you
can use to improve your opportunity of beating the dealer. We recommend that you
study and learn them as they will stand you in good stead:
1. If your initial two cards add up to eleven or below, always hit.
2. The most 'dangerous' hand you can be dealt in your first two cards is when
they add up to either 12, 13, 14, 15 or 16. Whether you choose to stand orb hit will depend on what the dealer's face card is showing.
3. Regardless of what the dealer's face card is showing, always assume that he
has at least a ten hidden.
4. Provided the dealer has a card showing a 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, K or A, you
should hit until your cards value above 16.
5. Should the dealer show 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 you should choose to stand.
6. The only exception to the above rule is if you have 12. In that case, draw
one more card.
7. If your cards total 17, 18, 19 or 20 you must never hit, unless you have an A
in your hand which can represent either one or eleven.
8. If you have a 'soft 17 or 18', meaning your hand contains an A, it is usually
recommended to hit only provided the dealer is showing a 9, 10, J, Q, K or A.
9. Don't bother with insurance. In essence, this is just a way of betting that
the dealer will achieve 21.
10. Stay focused. You are playing to beat the dealer and not betting (insurance)
that the dealer will beat you.
