How to Play Soft Online Blackjack Hands
A question often asked by many novice and even intermediate online Blackjack
players is what is the best way to play a three-card soft Blackjack hand?
If you don't know what a 'soft hand' is, it's a hand that contains an Ace and
takes the value of 11 as opposed to 1. It follows that a 'hard hand' is the
opposite, where the Ace has to take the value of 1 or the hand does not contain
an Ace at all.
Say, for example you are playing an online Blackjack hand and are a dealt a
three and four and the
dealer is showing a six. You would obviously hit and assuming you drew an Ace, you would
be sitting with a 'soft' eighteen (3 + 4 +11).
Unfortunately you are not in the position to double-down because you have
already been dealt a 3rd card. So what now?
Firstly, do
not panic.
Next, remember this simple rule: If you are holding anything from a soft
thirteen to a soft seventeen, always hit, regardless of what the dealer is
showing.
If you are holding a soft eighteen, such as in the above example, always stand
if the dealer is showing eight or less and always hit if he is showing a 9, 10 or Ace.
Should you have a soft nineteen or twenty, always stand regardless of what the
dealer is holding.
How about when a player is showing two eights against a dealer's ten card? This
combination of cards has caused thousands of online Blackjack players to sweat
over the years.
Again, the solution is easy if you bear a few simple rules in mind. Firstly,
realize that your sixteen versus a dealer's ten is one of the worst, if not the
worst, hands you can get in Blackjack.
So what you want to do is split them. As daunting as this may seem, it is the best
solution. If you played your sixteen you would most
probably lose your bet. By splitting your eights, the chances are good that you
would win at least one of the hands.
